It's a topic we've grappled with for ages now: where can we let people know what's new around the Somnolescent site network? It's unreasonable to expect folks to check a bunch of sites individually, and we'd like to let you all know we're not dead (quite the opposite!). We thought about using Letters for it, but ultimately, spamming that up with random new pages felt wrong.

Here's our solution. This page features a listing of the ten most recent Somnolescent site updates—redesigns, new pages, updated pages, and so forth. If you're an RSS sort (RSS being a very 2000s way to keep track of new posts on sites all over the Web), you can subscribe to a feed of Somnolescent site updates here and find a list of other RSS feeds on our site network under the updates table.

The radio has officially gone silent. The tech issues never ceased and the gigantic playlists meant managing it proved impractical. I'd rather send it off officially with dignity than have it hanging around broken for forever. If you're looking for stuff to listen to from us, keep an eye out for all-new Somnolescent Radio posts appearing on Letters in the coming months.

connor.somnolescent.net has been shut down! Connor moved to ciel.somnolescent.net a while ago, and now the main site reflects that and his old subdomain's site has been archived. It's currently unlisted, I'll have to cook up a headshot for him to list it. The ones on there are so old, my word.

Happy new year to all our faithful Somnol orbiters! First Somnol update of the new year: I was motivated by the Somnol 2025 traffic report I wrote up on Letters to do a total tagging and categorization overhaul of the group blog. It should be much easier to find posts that are part of a series, or posts on specific topics, or about things from specific decades now. Go back and read some old posts! We've gotten up to a lot over the years.

As part of the previous update's cleanup, I've been partitioning out and removing a lot of older Somnol material on the backend—databases that haven't been used since 2019, user accounts for folks not in the group anymore, sites like the blog and archives on their own user account. This has zero effects for you as the viewer, but it makes the backend feel a lot less messy and simpler, and that makes an old man happy.

misery-inspires.somnolescent.net and tesserae.somnolescent.net are officially defunct. Their sites have been retired for ages now, but the subdomains no longer work. You can still find their content on archives, so be sure to update your links if you've got any!

The long fabled archives redesign is complete! Enjoy a museum of Somnolescent history, a much nicer to browse site archive, redone file hoards, and yes, a mascot at long last! And she has guinea pigs! (If you're curious, yes, archives_v1 is also now on archives. I had to.)

Some new themes on dcb's new site! If Super Mario Galaxy doesn't butter your muffin (repent), throw it back to 2018 with one based on dcb_nc3. Just because it feels so right.

A new face? Nope, a rebrand! Come check out Connor's new personal site, all about him and what he gets up to, even featuring a fancy little style switcher for flavor. Wonder where he got that from. (The styles were all him, though. I use the RPG Maker theme myself.)

The hifi version of mariteaux.somnolescent.net now has two more themes in the theme switcher! Both of these themes are based on versions of Cammy's Neocities and Somnolescent sites dating back to late 2018, so you know they're good and vintage. This brings the total up to five—might there be more in the future?
